Poker is a card game in which players try to make the best hand possible from five cards. There are countless variants of poker, but they all have a few basic features.

The flop is the first card of the hand that is dealt. It can improve a weak hand or completely kill a strong one.

If you are holding a strong hand, don’t be afraid to bet on the flop. This will force other players to fold and build the pot for you.

Typically, the first person to act is the player to the left of the dealer. This person is called the “button” position.

When the button person bets, each player in turn must match or raise that bet. This is often referred to as calling.

You should only call when you have a strong hand and think it will beat the flop or draw. If you don’t, you can bluff or fold.

A bluff is when you make a bet or raise in the hope that other players will hold a better hand than you do. If they do, you win the hand.
